Have a coyote, an unhappy-hadn't-planned-to-be-shifting coyote, standing in the middle of the bed. Mercy retained just barely enough hold on her humanity to try and fight the bloodthirst that was on her, standing her ground and just growling low in her throat, even though all part of her wanted to do was bite and rip and tear.

He growled. "Look, whatever's wrong, stop. Now."

The tone of his voice, the energy around him, all of it was enough to let her stop struggling and push the bloodlust down and away.

She collapsed under his weight, letting all the tension go out of her body and whined a little in as much thanks as she could manage in this shape.

He moved off of her, his eyes shifting back. "Okay. Shift back."

Mercy tried, she really did, again and again until her eyes widened in panic.

But nothing she tried made any difference. This had never happened to her before, she'd never been stuck, it had always been effortless, but now... Damn... it had to be a curse of some sort. She'd have realized it sooner if her mind hadn't been so overwhelmed with the urge to tear and kill.

She panted, trying to contain her fear, and shook her head, hoping he'd understand.

He looked deeply concerned. "You can't?"

She shook her head again, panting harder as the fear tried to take over.

This had to end at midnight. It had to.

She wriggled onto her belly, ducking her head submissively, and tried to get as close to him as she thought he'd allow. He always seemed to soothe her when she was in human form, so maybe it would work now, too.
