94 Howls: Thoughts

In another month I'll have been here for 2 years. It seems pretty unbelievable. Some days it almost feels like home is the dream and this is the real place. Other days I miss everyone so much it hurts.

It's easier with Jack in the house, just knowing there's somebody else popping in and out makes me feel a little better, and hopefully the Doctor will come back around sometimes too.

Which reminds me... Doctor? You'd asked me about um... singing to the TARDIS? When would you like me to do that?

The Doctor thought if I sang to it in my coyote form that it might, well... cheer it up, I guess.

And I don't know. Some days I think it will never happen. And I do want to go home. It's okay here, but I miss my trailer and my garage and Warren, and Kyle and even Adam and Samuel.

Singing to a large blue box? Yeah, I suppose it seems a bit strange when you look at it like that.

Well, we're trying to use my manipulator and the TARDIS to get her back on her feet, that way it could be possible to get home. As for help, I think your singing is a good start.

OH! Right! Well, she's still immobile - although I think almost properly reattuned? Nice little light lyrical lucid buzzing from her last couple of days; bit of a shift from earlier. S'nice, actually. Like having the tonality shifted a half-metre lower and then gradually tuned back to where it'd been before. But, yes, sorry, really anytime you want. We haven't moved. Afternoon maybe - I'll be in the lab before then. Working a bit on some... theories from the train. Sort of.

It wasn't that much longer before anyone near the TARDIS would be able to hear the mournful howl of a coyote singing.

It took a couple of minutes for the Doctor to realise that there seemed to be a coyote outside, and then another seven seconds to remember precisely why that seemed to make sense. A few more seconds, and he was pulling open the door to the TARDIS, poking his head around to look for her. When he spotted her, he leaned against the side of the doorway, crossing his arms over his chest and grinning a bit.

Mercy wagged her tail, letting her jaw drop in a coyote grin for a moment before she finished her 'song'.

He continued leaning there until she'd finished, fully appreciating the end of the performance. 'That was lovely! Where'd you learn to croon like that?'

She gave a happy coyote wriggle and a bit of a yip along with a look that said she really couldn't speak in this form..

She had brought a pack with a change of clothes in it along with her in case she needed - or wanted - to change back to human form.

[Okay, the question was mildly facetious but WOW, I didn't even... Totally blanked. That wasn't even him being playful; it was me being derpy.]

'Oh. Right. Might make conversation a bit more difficult. I've never been anything other than...' He looks down, then back at her. 'Well, mostly this sort of shape. Regeneration's a bit dodgy but somehow manages to work out.' He pauses, putting one hand on the edge of the door that's still closed. 'Oooh, she did like that.' Grin. 'Doesn't often get sung to, the old girl.'

And that would be an even bigger coyote grin.

She went over to the side of the TARDIS and tugged out her pack with clothes, looking from it to the Doctor and back as if asking if he wanted her to shift back to human.

He straightens up a bit. 'Oh! All prepared and everything, aren't you?' Specifically though is she asking if he minds or if he wants her to? More the question. Well, the answer's really the same for either. 'Really whichever version you'd like to... be. I'm perfectly capable of talking enough for the pair of us, clearly, though it might be a bit boring for you. Though I don't see why; I'm amazing.' He does, though, open the other door so there's enough room for her to pass by. 'If you do want to though, might be better inside.'

Amazing, huh? Well, that sounds like a bit of a challenge, something Mercy has a really hard time passing up. So, she lowers herself to the ground, front paws crossed politely, head up, grinning, laughing with her eyes.

Go ahead, Doctor. Amaze us.

She'll come inside and change in a bit, but first she can't quite resist this.

Ah. Well. What is she doing. He'd been expecting her to walk in, and now she was lying down, looking up at him expectantly. ...Whyyyyy, was she d-- OH! Right. That.

'Welllll, it's not really.. I mean, it's situationally based, you know. The heat of the moment, the thrill of the chase, the... ghost in the machine?' He looked at her, mildly hopefully, then shook his head. 'No, no, that's totally different. I wasn't expecting you to do that.' Clearly, Doctor. He runs a hand through his hair in either thought or mild embarrassment, fluffing it considerably. '...Yeahh, it's really based more on the situation. Bit like off-the-cuff humour.' The Doctor scrunched his face a bit and looked at her, then grinned apologetically. 'I could rattle off all the things I know at you and while that would be amazing after a while through sheer volume, I don't think it's really the kind of... amazing I was intending. Want me to get your coat? Pack.'

If coyotes could smirk, she'd be doing just that. Good-naturedly, of course, because she really does so enjoy the Doctor. She stood up, gave herself a little shake and picked up her pack in her mouth before walking in and looking around expectantly as if asking where she should go to change.

Yes, well, he's getting that distinct vibe from her anyway, so it worked. Need to be more careful about when he decides to declare how brilliant he is. He holds the door open and then shuts them behind her and walks up to the console to look at something, then looks over at her. 'Oh, umm, just, down that hallway,' pointing to the only other exit in the room, 'and you should hit a door, ...eventually. Any of them will do, I should think.'

Coyote!Mercy trotted down the hall and emerged a minute later in her human form, stretching a little to be rid of the last tiny tingles of her change. "So you really think it helped then? My singing to her?"

'Oh, yes,' he replies, not looking up for a moment. 'She loves attention. Gets it just from me most of the time, what with people tending to forget there's some sentience there, and then just because there isn't anyone else here.' He finally looks up at her and smiles a bit. 'Hello again!'

She smiled at him. "This place is amazing. From the outside - well, I couldn't quite believe you stayed here - wondered if maybe it led to some sort of underground house or something."

He grins. Yeahhhhh. Get that a lot, not a familiar sentiment at all. 'Oh you noticed? Bigger on the inside and all, yeah.' He nodded once or twice. 'Generally takes you lot a little bit of getting used to; frankly the amount of work humans put into building homes that are exactly the same size they actually appear to be is somewhat baffling.' Not everyone can have Time Lord technology though. No, just Time Lords, and then people who oughtn't to have it at all. 'Not underground - though there is a pool that looks like it is. And a garden. A bit of underground, just... not like how you meant.' He pulled a couple of wires out from under the grate and examined them as he spoke, 'And you can tell her she's amazing if you want. Guarantee she'd appreciate it. Might even let you know herself.'
