[Meanwhile, Ianto is in the kitchen, cleaning up the last of things]

[Kyle heard the sound of water in the sink and cups rattling and assumed it was Ianto, as Jack generally made more of a clamour. He ushered Mercy forward to the kitchen.]

Looks like someone's home.

From:

[Mercy let herself be ushered into the kitchen and smiled at the man there.]

Hi. I'm Mercedes - or Mercy. It's nice to meet you.

[Hum. Ianto hadn't been expecting any visitors, so he looked a little surprised as he wiped his hands dry on a tea towel.

Then the name clicked and he smiled his 'polite new person' smile and stepped forward, offering a hand to shake.]

Lovely to finally meet you, Mercy, Kyle's told me plenty about you. I'm Ianto.

Sorry, I should have called first but...

[Kyle was excited. He was still excited and Mercy would be able to smell it even if Ianto couldn't see it. Although the Welshman possibly could, he was good at picking up on Kyle's feelings.]

She just arrived. I told her we had plenty of room.

Ianto.

[Mercy nodded at him, smiling over at Kyle and his excitement.]

I hope you don't mind. I just arrived and I'm a little at a loss.

[Yep, Ianto could certainly tell Kyle was excited. After introductions were made though, he stepped back again. Nothing personal to Mercy, but he was always like that with people he didn't know.]

Of course it's fine. As Kyle said, we have more than enough room for you to stay, and we certainly wouldn't turn you out when you're new and unsure.

[The only thing he can tell from her accent is that she's American. Well, that made sense as Kyle was American too, and they knew each other.]

[Kyle beamed happily at both of them and moved to usher Mercy into a chair at the table. Then he placed a hand at the small of Ianto's back and coaxed him over to the kitchen table too.]

Sit, I'll clean up the rest and Mercy, you wanted some cocoa right?

[He puttered around the kitchen to find the canister of hot chocolate mix and the milk.]

I told you it would be fine.

Hot chocolate would be fabulous!

[She smiled gratefully at Kyle and a bit more hesitantly at Ianto.]

I'm told you're the one in charge of the chocolate supply.

Uh...

[Was his work being taken away from him? Ianto liked to keep things clean himself! But he'd forgive Kyle this time, considering the circumstances.

But it would be nice to get to know Mercy.]

Oh, yes, in charge of all supplies, actually. I think I've somehow been appointed in charge of all things that require a little organisation in this house.

[Oh relax, it was already pretty well cleaned by the time Kyle got his hands on anything. One dish on the rack being put away was hardly putting Ianto out of a job.

Kyle heated the milk and added the mix to it, wondering if they had any marshmallows. He didn't think so, but it never hurt to check.]

Only because he never lets anyone else do it.

[Mercy watched the two of them, not quite able to keep from comparing Ianto to Warren. They were very different, but she could still sense the connection between them and she was glad of that for Kyle's sake.]

So, I shouldn't offer to take over?

[That was definitely a twinkle in her eyes.]

[Ianto had no idea he was being compared to Warren, he'd probably be a bit under confident if he did. From what he'd heard, he didn't think he really measured up anyway.]

The times I do let people, it ends up going wrong.

[He smiles at Mercy, letting her in on the joke]

I'd end up making mischief if someone did take over. If I'm not busy, I'm bored and that is a bad thing.

[Kyle poured hot chocolate into a mug and set it down in front of Mercy, taking a set as well.]

So does this city. Has anyone shown you the guide yet, or told you about curses?

I wouldn't mind being bored on occasion.

[Didn't happen very often, though she hated to meet that certain others might be right about trouble always seeming to find her.]

But give me my tools and a car to work on and I can always amuse myself.

[She smiled gratefully at Kyle and took the mug, curling her feet up under her on the chair. The hot chocolate was heavenly after her day, even if it was instant.]

Guide? No. And... someone said something about the curses, but it all just seems so surreal right now.

[Anyone that knew Ianto knew he couldn't stand to be bored, and would find things to fill his time.]

Not many cars in the City, I'm afraid. Kyle had his jag, though.

[There were of course, parts to be gotten Underground to build cars, but he felt that Kyle may hurt him very badly if he mentioned that.]

There's enough time for you to find out. Kyle will help you and so will the rest of us.

I'm not sure it will get any less surreal, but Ianto's right. We'll help you.

[Kyle gave Mercy a reassuring pat on the arm.]

But it is true that transportation here is...limited. You might have a tough time finding cars to work on.

[That was... well, her face undoubtedly showed how much that bothered her. She'd thought at least in a city there'd be cars. But she was too tired and turned around to worry much about it now, just sipped at her hot chocolate to give herself time to cover a little.]

At least... it's good not to be alone here.

Exactly. I'm glad someone's here for Kyle.

[Although he was perceptive, Ianto didn't need that to see the disappointment in Mercy's face, and his brain got whirring away as he thought through all his many contacts, figuring out if he could do anything for her.]

From:

We'll work out something.

[Kyle knew how independant Mercy could be, and how much her livelihood meant to her. He was also sorting through people he knew, trying to think of a solution.]

There isn't a large need for divorce lawyers in the City either, but I'm making do. And hey...

[He reached over to take Ianto's hand.]

I have a lot of someones here for me.

[She'd never thought she'd miss not having Adam and Samuel clashing over her and who got to run her life, but right now? She did.]

[She liked history? Ianto sat up and grinned, squeezing Kyle's hand in return for where he held it.]

Yep, best not to try and figure things out when you first get here. I made that mistake when I came here.
