[For a brief moment there's a pang of hurt there, then he covers it up. Since everyone else he knows is cursed today, this is obviously a curse too. It still kind of stings even though it shouldn't.]

Yeah, Samuel isn't here. He's back home and you're in the city. You're... pregnant and in the city. And you and I are roommates along with two other people.

Yeah, you and I are very good friends here. We both don't trust very easily. I'm sorry this is really confusing for you.

She sits down heavily on the couch, clearly in the living room of the beach house. She's gone pale and swallows hard.

Are we, are we prisoners here? Of the vampires or something? How long have I been here?

Samuel must be going insane. He'll take the city apart if he can't find me.

Uhhh I'm not really sure how long you've been here. Since before me. And uh we're kind of prisoners, yeah. But apparently when you go back home you're at exactly the same place you left at. It's... kind of mind-boggling.

[And Derek's coming out of the hallway and into the living room. He stops short, cause seeing it in person is so much more... shocking.]

I know it doesn't make sense but you've gotta calm down, Princess.

"I know, I know." She managed an uneasy smile. "This is just... too much."

"Yeah, I can see how it would be too much." He looks down to that swollen belly. "You uh... you got any questions?"

Mercy shook her head, cursing the stupid hormones which left her on the edge of tears all the damn time. "I don't even know what to ask. I don't understand any of this - where I am, what's going on, why I feel like I'm so close to you when I can't remember ever seeing you before... I don't get it."

"This city, it pulls people in from everywhere, every dimension, every world, every timeline, I mean... everywhere. It's like some big science experiment." He felt the least he could do was explain what he could. "It's run by the beings called deities. And they like to put us through these curses. I think... this is your curse for today. Being... pregnant and knowing who I am. The whole Samuel thing..."

Mercy rubbed at her tears with the edge of a sleeve, trying to not be noticed. "It sounds horrible."

"It's... got its moments." He wanted to go hug her, but she had no clue who he was and was wondering where Samuel was and was pregnant. Now wasn't the time. So he just stood there. "I could make you some hot chocolate... or... something."

Mercy managed a teary smile. "You do know me. Hot chocolate would be really nice right about now."

She hesitated. "This... it must be odd for you - I mean, you - I'm not pregnant when you know me, am I? And Samuel? Am I married to him?"

"Coming right up." Derek was really glad for something to do. He continued to speak to her as he moved to the kitchen to start on some hot chocolate. "You're uh... well you told me that you ran away from him. Because he didn't love you the way you wanted to be loved. And no, you're not pregnant... not really." He hoped.

Mercy froze. "I told you about that? I don't tell anyone about -"

She ducked her head. "I started to, but then I thought maybe it could be enough. That maybe he was my only chance to have someone really care about me. Even if it was only because I could have his children. That maybe he was my only chance to, you know, have a family."

And that would be the tears starting again. Stupid, stupid hormones.
