40 Howls: Blind [voice]

I can't see a thing. I don't even know where the hell I am in the house.

I was up late and wandering and midnight hit and my sight went and I fell and hit my head on something and just woke up and ... I'm in a hallway.

Hang on...

Okay, still blind in coyote form, but at least I could scent my way to my own room - bumped into stuff a lot, but I'm here and Medea is here and midnight... well, I have no idea how long I was unconscious or what time it is. I guess when my sight comes back... it's midnight.

So not panicking. Except for, well... yeah.

Doesn't sound like not reason to me.

I just keep telling myself it's a curse and it will all be over by midnight.

Might even start believing it soon.

I'm trying to be really brave. It'll be a lot easier with you here.

Does your head hurt? Do you feel funny?

My head hurts a lot and I'm a little nauseous, but not too bad.

Not the worst head injury I've had, that's for sure.

I'll be the judge of that.

[thomas opened the front door and made his way to the bedroom, knocking gently on the door before going in.]

Hey, there.

Thomas. I'm so glad you're here.

[She made a move as if to stand up, then thought better of it and stayed on the bed.]

Better I stay here I think. All I need is to take another header.

[He made his way over to the bed and took a seat, wrapping his arms around her.]

Just let me know if you need anything.

[She let out a long breath and curled into him.]

Just this. I can close my eyes and pretend everything's fine and know I'm safe.

[He was glad she couldn't see the sad look on his face. He never felt like the great protector. Maybe 'the Great Pretender.' He kissed the top of her head.]

I'm glad.

You always make me feel safe.

[Her voice was quiet and he could probably feel the tension in her body starting to let go.]

[He began to idly pet her hair.]

I know.

[She smiled, resting her head down on his shoulder and letting her arms go around him.]

Figures I'd fall and knock myself silly. At least I didn't break anything.

[He let his arms remain around her.]

Yeah, you've got a nasty lump.

I'd smell if I'd gotten blood all over, so I don't think I broke the skin.

[She was quiet for a moment.]

I wouldn't like being blind. It's frightening. I'm sure you'd get used to it, but...

Well, there are some people born that way.

[She nodded and winced a little.]

Maybe I should say I'd hate to lose my sight. If I was born blind I'd grow up knowing how to adjust. Like this? I'm just scared.

I know it's stupid, but there it is. I think humans sort of have an atavistic fear of the dark and now everything's gone dark.

But...you're not human, are you? Not...really.

No, I guess I'm not. Still have that fear of the deep dark, though.

Most of the time, what you're afraid of in the dark can't see you, either.

[She shivered a little against him, thinking of the vampire seethe.]

The vampires back home can.

[He held her tighter]

It's probably not very conforting, but so can I.

Ah, but you'd be watching to protect me.

[She was very certain of that.]

I'd be safe with you.
