Mercy's clearly inanimate body was laid out on Thomas' bed where it had been since he'd brought it there Monday night. He'd cleaned it up and placed it in a place she'd recognize when she woke up.

If she woke up.

The camera was focused on the body for nearly a minute before there was a sudden startling gasp for breath and Mercy sat bolt upright with a cry, scrabbling backwards on the bed and grasping at her chest where she'd been shot.

"THOMAS!"

"Thomas?" Her hands were at her chest, voice a little panicky. "I was shot. I was right? But there's no hole, no blood, and... how am I here and not there?"

He came over and sat down next to her, wrapping his arms around her. "Because I brought you here."

She clung to him. "I don't understand. I... I was dying, I was sure of it, but now there's nothing. What happened?"

He petted her hair. "You did."

"I died?" She looked up at him with wide eyes. "I did, didn't I? But I'm not, my heart's beating and I'm breathing, I'm not City Dead. Is it just after midnight?"

He shook his head. "It was two days ago."

"Two..." Her eyes went huge and she pulled away to cup his face. "Two days? Oh... oh, damn. Thomas... You, you must have been going crazy."

He chuckled. "Well, it was a little creepy."

She looked around the room. "Did you have me... lying here dead in your bed all this time?"

He cleared his throat, a little uncomfortable. "Well, that would be the creepy part."

"Yeah." She closed her eyes, held on to him for another moment. "It was in case I finally woke up, wasn't it? So I wouldn't be scared or alone."

Thomas' only reply was a gentle kiss on the top of her head.

She let out a breath. "She got away? Thank heavens. She was so scared I didn't know if she'd run."

"Yeah, she did." He couldn't let go of her. "Everything's okay."

Mercy was in no way, shape, or form objecting to that, since she wasn't about to let him go either.

"Are you okay? Did you get hurt too? I know you weren't far."

"The only thing that hurt was not getting there in time."

Her hands tightened on him unconsciously. "I'm sorry," she said again, knowing there was nothing she could have done, but hating to think of how he'd been hurt.

He shook his head. "Don't worry about it. Everything's okay, now."
